| SPAM Cookoff Benefits Homeless YouthLawyers from a Minneapolis-based law firm spent Friday evening cooking up a way to help homeless and runaway youth.
Robins, Kaplan, Miller and Ciresi, LLP held its second annual SPAM cooking competition. Eleven teams used the required one 12-ounce can of SPAM to create culinary confections. The competition was held at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in St. Paul.
Each team’s entry fee went to Catholic Charities’ Hope Street for Runaway and Homeless Youth. Hope Street helps 1,500 youth annually. The cooking competition generated more than $15,000 in donations.
“This was a great event to hold a friendly competition among our peers,” says Jan Conlin, chair of the Business Litigation group for the firm and Catholic Charities Board Member.
The teams created a variety of SPAM-based dishes ranging from eggs Benedict to sushi to pizza. The winning team, who created a Bloody Mary made with SPAM, will represent the firm at the 2009 Minnesota State Fair Best SPAM Recipe Contest.
“It was a fun evening and the talent these lawyers have in cooking is quite interesting,” says Martin Lueck, chairman of the firm’s Executive Board and judge for the event. “It is rewarding to work with these talented individuals who gave it their all and came together to have fun and raise money for a charity that is in great need of funding.”
