People in Need Receive Gifts – and Hope – Through Catholic Charities’ Holiday Programs
Giving Tree Holiday Program Celebrates 15 Years of Helping Others An ornament on the tree reads: “Lisa, age 34, maternity clothing, Prenatal Services.” Another ornament says: “Joe, age 57, boots, size 11, Dorothy Day Center.” The holiday wishes of these individuals are not luxuries – they’re basic necessities clients cannot afford. Thanks to the Giving Tree, thousands of low-income community members receive much-needed items during the holiday season.
For 15 years, the generosity of thousands has provided gifts for people who access Catholic Charities’ services. On behalf of those whose holidays you brighten, thank you to the shoppers and volunteers who made the Giving Tree at the Mall of America possible this holiday season!
Families Experience the Holiday Spirit Through the Sponsor A Family Program Many families in poverty cannot afford basic items such as new shoes, and extra gifts under the tree are not an option. Sponsor A Family, a joint project of Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Service, provides families in need with gifts to make their holidays special. Approximately 2,000 families will benefit from the Sponsor A Family program this holiday season.
All families have been matched with a sponsor. However, donations of gift cards and gifts for additional families are still being accepted. Visit www.sponsorafamily.org for more information.
