How to Organize a Successful Food Drive
You don’t have to look far to find people who need help putting food on the table. Consider this:
- In July 2009, one of Catholic Charities' food shelves served 73 percent more households than in July 2008.
- Minnesotans who can’t afford food skip the equivalent of two weeks’ of dinners each month to make ends meet.
You can help right now.
You can simply buy extra food at the grocery store and donate it (see our food shelf locations). Or you can organize your neighborhood, workplace, church, campus organization or your friends and hold a food drive. Or, invite people to bring food donations to your next party, like this boy did for his fifth birthday.
Catholic Charities can provide you with reusable bags to distribute to people who want to help. Simply have your friends fill and return the black Catholic Charities bags with food items. One person can arrange to drop them off at one of our food shelves, or we can come pick them up.
