Ecolab Matching Grant Combats Hunger in the Twin CitiesEcolab fulfilled a matching challenge grant announced last March to benefit three local hunger-fighting agencies, including the Dorothy Day Center food shelf.
Ecolab matched every dollar given by its employees and retirees. Generous donations from employees and the St. Paul-based company helped stock the Dorothy Day food shelf for individuals and families seeking assistance. In addition, Ecolab employees regularly volunteer at the Dorothy Day Center in downtown St. Paul. The St. Paul-based company designated the Dorothy Day Center emergency food shelf as one of three recipients of the grant announced March 2, 2009. Maplewood food bank Second Harvest Heartland and Neighborhood House, located in St. Paul, also received funding from the grant.
Area food shelves have been stretched thin in recent months. This grant helps the Dorothy Day food shelf better serve its clients, as demand for services continues to rise to near-record levels.
