Dorothy Day Center Emergency Shelter - Extended Hours Program
The Dorothy Day Center in downtown St. Paul provides homeless people and families with basic necessities and offers resources that give hope for a better future. The overnight emergency shelter provides a hospitable environment while upholding the dignity of people in need.
The Extended Hours Program was designed to offer shelter to 150 homeless adults. Most nights, about 200 people sleep on mats, and 42 women sleep in a shelter upstairs.
Services:
- Shelter space for 250
- Snacks, wake-up calls and showers
- Computer lab
Hours: Daily, 8:30 p.m. – 6:45 a.m.
2009 Program Outcomes: - The Extended Hours Program served 2,688 individual men and women
- 15 percent of guests were age 55 and older
