"We ran out of blankets last night."

The note from a Dorothy Day Center client volunteer on Oct. 7 began with that sad statement. The note continued, “We don’t have enough blankets for the number of people staying here.”

You may feel compelled to donate blankets to meet this most basic need. We need new or gently used blankets and twin size sheets. You can drop them off at the Dorothy Day Center in downtown St. Paul.

But we need more than blankets. We need help to move people from the floor of the Dorothy Day Center into their own housing.

Here's how you can help:
  • A $15 donation covers a hot meal and someone’s night at the shelter. Make a gift now.
  • Join the Circle of Dignity, a monthly giving program that supports the Dorothy Day Center.
  • Become a fan of Catholic Charities on Facebook to receive program updates.
  • Sign up to receive updates on proposed laws that impact the poor and children in need. Then send an e-mail to your legislator advocating on behalf of those who often go unheard.
  • Organize a food drive and donate the food to one of Catholic Charities' three food shelves.
  • Volunteer to serve a meal, organize a game night or do yard work at one of our 40 programs.
  • Collect travel-size hygiene items — toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, soap. View our wish list for more ideas of what to donate.
We are grateful for your support of those most in need in our community. Thank you.
